I honestly don’t know. Isayama’s had the trend lately of having these god awful character death cliffhangers the past few chapters and they’ve always ended up being saved.
That being said, he did also say that these chapters would have the most impact on the series, so something big is going to go down. That could certainly mean a number of things, not necessarily Erwin’s death (but the commander of the survey corps dying would be a huge event).
But I’m (horribly) leaning more towards Erwin dying. There’s been a lot of red flags, particularly the obvious move of him naming Hange as his successor. Why would he do that unless he felt sure he wasn’t going to be around? It also goes back to what Armin was saying about how the best way to win the revolution is to turn the people against the military police and side with the Survey Corps. Now that Hange, Moblit and Flegel have and continue to get the populace on the Survey Corps side by outing the central military police (and yes with Nile becoming more suspicious of his own faction), it feels like the final step is Erwin being executed as the Commander of the now-sympathetic Survey Corps. It’d make him a martyr and the populace will be outraged by the injustice and turn against the monarchy/government and central military police.
I feel like it’s obviously part of Erwin’s plan and he’s proven time and time again that he’s willing to make sacrifices for his own goals and for humanity - that could include himself. He could still be saved but I feel like him dying is the final piece of the revolution. And it’s probably all according to his plan. It’s sad as fuck and I do NOT want Erwin to die but if he does, it will be on his terms. Which (in-between ugly sobbing) I’ll admire the hell out of because that means he fucking destroyed them himself, he never let them get the better of him. I hope his last words are “eat my entire ass, your majesty" because that’s the gesture he’s fucking pulling to the monarchy right now if my prediction is true.
You don’t fuck with Erwin Smith and come out winning basically. But I really really hope he’s saved - it’s just a bastard part of my gut instinct is saying he’s going to sacrifice himself.
